Production & Sourcing

Zizyphus spinosa is primarily grown in China, where it is known as "Da Zao" in Chinese. It is also grown in other parts of Asia, including Japan, Korea, Thailand, and India. The plant can also be found in other regions of the world, such as the Mediterranean, where it is known as "Sideritis" or "Red dates".
The cultivation of Zizyphus spinosa primarily takes place in dry and sunny climates with well-drained soil, as the plant is highly sensitive to frost. It can be grown as a bush or trained as a tree up to 12 meters in height. The harvest season for the fruits is usually from August to October.
The fruits are generally handpicked when they are fully ripened, which is indicated by their reddish-brown color and wrinkled skin.

Ash value is the residue remaining after the incineration of the drug or plant part. Ash value represents the amounts of inorganic salts naturally occurring in the ingredient and adhering to it. It also includes inorganic matter which helps to identify adulteration. Ash value greater than 5% is an indicator of the addition of inorganic metal salts in the product. We accept ash value below 10% because more content of ash value represents more impurities that adversely affect human health when consumed.
