Biotin, also known as vitamin B7 or vitamin H, is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a vital role in several essential metabolic processes within the body. It is part of the B-complex group of vitamins and is required for the proper functioning of enzymes that are involved in breaking down carbohydrates, fats, and proteins to provide energy. Since the body cannot produce biotin on its own in sufficient amounts, it must be obtained from dietary sources or supplements. Foods rich in biotin include eggs, nuts, seeds, fish, organ meats, and certain vegetables.
