Goji berries, cultivated primarily in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in China but also grown in other parts of Asia, Europe, and North America, thrive on Lycium barbarum and Lycium chinense plants, members of the nightshade family.
Production commences with planting goji shrubs in nutrient-rich soil, ensuring proper irrigation. These shrubs, growing up to 5 feet tall, bear small purple flowers that mature into vibrant red berries. Harvesting involves delicate handpicking to prevent bruising.
The versatile berries can be consumed fresh or dried. Drying methods, including sun-drying or low-heat techniques, preserve their nutritional content, creating nutritious dried goji berries.
