Production & Sourcing

Millet, also known as “small grains,” is a cereal grain that is widely cultivated and consumed in many parts of the world. It is believed to be one of the earliest domesticated crops, with evidence of its cultivation dating back to ancient civilizations in China and India. Today, millet is primarily grown in developing countries such as India, China, Nigeria, and Niger, but it is also gaining popularity in the West due to its nutritional benefits and versatility in cooking.
Millet is a hardy crop that can withstand drought and other adverse environmental conditions, making it an important food source for many regions with limited resources. It is also a low-input crop, requiring less water and fertilizer compared to other cereal grains, making it an environmentally sustainable option for food production.
After harvesting, millet undergoes thorough washing and cleaning to remove soil, dust, and other impurities. Following the cleaning process, the millet grains are dried using methods such as air-drying or low-temperature dehydration to preserve the integrity of their nutrients and bioactive compounds. Once dried, the millet can be processed further by milling into flour or packaged as whole grains, creating a versatile form that retains the grain's natural flavor and potential health benefits. This processed millet is then packaged in airtight containers to prevent moisture absorption and maintain freshness, ensuring that the millet retains its quality and nutritional properties from farm to table.
Millet is typically sown during the summer season and harvested in the fall. It can grow in a wide range of soil types, from sandy loam to clay, and can thrive in both dry and wet conditions. The crop is a staple food for many smallholder farmers and is often grown as a mixed crop along with other grains such as sorghum and maiz
