Also known as chokeberries they belong to the family of Rosaceae. These berries are native to America, and Europe. Hydroxycinnamic acid, flavonols, and anthocyanin are the major bioactive components present in these small purple-blackish color fruits. These fruits are a good source of Vitamin C, K, and B complex and also a good source of minerals like potassium, calcium, iron, zinc, and magnesium. It contains quite a good amount of potent antioxidants and has many health benefits.

Aronia, also called chokeberries, are dark purple berries grown on shrubs native to eastern North America. Harvested by hand in late summer to early fall, they're mainly produced in the US but also in Europe. Propagated via cuttings or layering, aronia plants need well-drained, acidic soil and full sun. After harvesting, they're processed into juice, puree, or dried forms, with mechanical methods used to remove stems and leaves before pasteurization and bottling.
