It is the fourth most important cereal crop in the world, and the largest producers of barley include the European Union, Russia, Canada, and Australia. Barley requires cool, temperate climates for optimum growth and is typically grown in irrigated land or areas with high levels of rainfall. Barley is an annual crop that takes around 90-120 days to mature. It is usually planted in the fall and harvested in early summer. The grain is harvested by cutting the stalks close to the base and separating the seed heads. The seeds are then dried to reduce moisture content and stored in cool, dry conditions.
