Also known as Capalaga, Ilachi, Green Cardamom, True Cardamom and Ceylon Cardamom which belong to the family Zingiberaceae. It is native to Southern India, Sri Lanka, and Guatemala. It is also called the Queen of spices that widely used in foods because of its strong aroma and flavoring characteristics. Alpha-terpinyl acetate, 1,8-cineole, linalool acetate, sabinene, and linalool are the bioactive compounds present in these small fruits. These fruits are powerhouse of antioxidants that combat harmful oxidative stress and protect cells from damage. It is also well known for its medicinal values from the early centuries. Intake of cardamom is good for the heart, gut, mouth, teeth, respiratory system, and liver health.
