Cordyceps mushroom, also known as caterpillar fungus or yartsa gunbu, is an edible mushroom that grows on the larvae of ghost moths in the high-altitude regions of Asia. This mushroom is considered a rare and valuable ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine and gourmet cuisine.Cordyceps mushrooms are produced through a unique natural process that involves the parasitization of caterpillar larvae by the fungal spores. The spores enter the body of the larvae and grow into a long, slender and dark brown fruiting body, which emerges from the head of the larva. The mushroom is then harvested by hand, making it a labor-intensive and costly production process.
