Also known as female ginseng, Chinese Angelica belongs to the family Apiaceae. It is native to China, Japan, and Korea that prefers to grow in cold climates. Dong quai contains many biochemical constituents like alkyl phthalides, a furanocoumarin, coumarins, terpenes, phytosterols, organic acids, and polysaccharide. It is a good source of minerals and vitamins like B12, Folic acid. Intake of this root as raw or as a supplement is good for the heart, menstrual cycles, and joint health.
