Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is a deciduous shrub native to Europe and Asia. It grows in a wide range of soils, from sea level to high altitudes, and is resistant to drought, frost, and pests. The plant produces bright orange berries that are small in size but pack a powerful nutritional punch.
The process of harvesting the berries is labor-intensive, as they are delicate and easily damaged. The most common way to harvest sea buckthorn is by hand-picking the berries, which requires skilled workers who can navigate the prickly thorns of the shrub. In some regions, mechanical harvesting methods, such as shaking the shrubs or using specialized harvesting machines, are also used.
After harvesting, the berries are usually frozen to preserve their nutritional value and prevent spoilage. They can also be dried or juiced for various applications.
