The major active component of Yohimbe is yohimbine. Yohimbine is an indole alkaloid. Yohimbine is also known as quebrachine. It is a dietary supplement, rich in antioxidants. Yohimbe, derived from the bark of the Yohimbe tree in Central and Western Africa, is harvested, dried, and ground into a fine powder. This powder is dissolved in alcohol or water to create extracts for supplements and traditional medicines. Primarily sourced from Cameroon, Gabon, and Nigeria, Yohimbe supply is threatened by overharvesting and deforestation. Efforts are underway to cultivate it sustainably in regions like South America.
