Product Use

Production & Sourcing

Boswellia, a genus of trees known for producing frankincense, is primarily cultivated in arid regions of India, Africa, and the Middle East. The production process begins with the careful cultivation of Boswellia trees, which thrive in dry, rocky soils and require minimal water. Harvesting involves making small incisions in the tree bark to allow the resin to ooze out. This resin is then left to harden for several weeks before being collected by hand. The resin is carefully scraped off the bark and cleaned to remove impurities. Sourcing Boswellia involves selecting reliable producers who adhere to sustainable harvesting practices to ensure the long-term health of Boswellia trees and the ecosystems they support. Ethical sourcing is crucial, as overharvesting can deplete tree populations and disrupt local biodiversity. Many suppliers participate in certification programs that verify sustainable and ethical practices, ensuring that the Boswellia resin meets high-quality standards. These programs often support local communities involved in Boswellia cultivation and harvesting, promoting fair trade and sustainable livelihoods. The combination of careful production, harvesting, and ethical sourcing ensures that Boswellia resin is available for various applications while maintaining ecological balance and supporting local economies.
