Production & Sourcing

Buchu, also known as Agathosma betulina or Barosma betulina, is a flowering shrub native to South Africa. It is primarily found in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces of the country. Buchu leaves and stems are harvested from wild-grown shrubs that are typically between 1-2 meters tall. The plants are collected by hand, and the leaves and stems are carefully removed using traditional methods. The best time to harvest Buchu is during the flowering season, which lasts from October to November. After harvesting, Buchu leaves and stems are dried in the sun for several days until they become crisp. They are then stored in a cool, dry place until they are ready to be processed. The processing of Buchu involves crushing and grinding the dried leaves and stems into a fine powder.
