Production & Sourcing

Cilantro, also known as coriander or Chinese parsley, is a herb that is native to southern Europe, northern Africa, and southwestern Asia. It is an annual plant that grows best in warm climates with well-drained soil and plenty of sunlight. Today, it is cultivated in many parts of the world, including China, India, Mexico, and the United States. The production of cilantro starts with sowing the seeds in well-prepared soil in the early spring. The seeds are small and round, and they need to be planted at a shallow depth of about half an inch. It takes about 2-3 weeks for the seeds to germinate, and they will start to grow into seedlings with feathery, pale green leaves. Cilantro plants grow quickly and will reach maturity in about 6-8 weeks. They are usually harvested when they are about 6 inches tall, with fully developed leaves. The leaves are typically hand-picked, as the plant is too delicate for mechanical harvesting. Cilantro leaves can be harvested multiple times throughout the growing season, but the flavor is best when the leaves are young and tender.
