Product Use |
Mangosteen, also known as the queen of fruits, is a tropical fruit native to Southeast Asia. It is primarily grown in countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The fruit is highly prized for its sweet and tangy flavor, and its purple-red flesh which is encased in a thick, dark purple rind.
The production of mangosteen can be a labor-intensive process, as the fruit must be carefully picked by hand to avoid damaging the delicate rind. The trees typically bear fruit twice a year, and the fruit is only harvested when ripe, as it does not ripen further once picked. This makes the fruit quite perishable, and it is often air-freighted to ensure that it reaches its destination in optimal condition.
The majority of mangosteen production is done by small-scale farmers, as the fruit is not suitable for large-scale commercial farming due to its delicate nature. The trees require a warm and humid climate with plenty of rainfall, as well as well-drained soil. They also need a long period of relatively cool temperatures (around 18-24 degrees Celsius) for the fruit to develop properly.
