Production & Sourcing

Astragalus, also known as huang qi or milkvetch, is a herbaceous plant native to China. It has been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is now gaining popularity in Western medicine as well. The plant is a member of the legume family and is characterized by its pea-like flowers and leaves with small leaflets. Astragalus can be cultivated in a variety of regions, including China, Mongolia, Korea, and other parts of Asia, as well as parts of Europe and North America. The plant is typically grown in dry, sandy or rocky soils, often on hills or mountains. It requires a sunny and well-drained environment to thrive. In terms of production, the plant is typically grown from seeds or root cuttings. It takes about 3-4 years for the plant to reach maturity and become harvestable. Once harvested, the roots are cleaned, dried, and processed into various forms, such as powder, capsules, tinctures, and extracts. The dried roots are also commonly used in soups, tea, and other culinary preparations.
