Also known as the holy thistle, legalon, Marian thistle, Mary thistle, silibinin, silybin, silymarin, and St Mary thistle belong to the family Asteraceae. It is native to the Mediterranean region of Europe. Silibinin, silychristin, and silidianin are the three major active components that are collectively called silymarin present in seeds of milk thistle. It is a good source of potent antioxidants. This herb has many health benefits.
