Production & Sourcing

Spinach, botanically known as Spinacia oleracea, is a leafy green vegetable that belongs to the Amaranthaceae family. It is a fast-growing plant that is mostly cultivated in temperate regions all over the world. The primary producers of spinach are the United States, China, and Japan. The top exporting countries of spinach are the United States, Spain, and Italy. China is the primary importer of spinach.

Spinach is mostly grown in the colder months of the year, especially during winter and early spring. It requires well-drained soil and a neutral pH level. The plant is usually grown from seeds, and it takes about 6-8 weeks for the plants to reach maturity. Spinach is commonly grown in open fields, and the plants are harvested by hand. However, to meet high demands, some farmers also use machine harvesters.

After being harvested, spinach is cleaned, sorted, and packaged. The leaves are usually washed with cold water to remove any dirt or debris. Then, the leaves are sorted based on size and quality before being packed into bags or boxes for transportation.
