Turkey tail mushroom is a polypore mushroom that belongs to the family Polyporaceae. It is native to North America, Europe, and Asia. This mushroom is a good source of Phenolic compounds, free amino acids, vitamins, and fatty acids. p-hydroxybenzoic, protocatechuic, vanillic, homogentisic acids like phenolic compounds are present in quite good amounts in this mushroom. It is also rich in essential, non-essential amino acids, vitamins like nicotinic acid, nicotinamide, fatty acids such as linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, linolenic acid. It is a powerhouse of antioxidants. It is very nutritious, so intake of this mushroom provides us nutrition and is good for the immune system, lung, and colon health.
