Also known as Asian ginseng, Korean ginseng, and Chinese ginseng belongs to the family Araliaceae. It is native to Asian countries. Ginsenosides, which are also called ginseng saponins are the major active components of ginseng root. Along with Ginsenosides, it also contains gintonin. The root of this plant is a good source of potent antioxidants and is rich in vitamins, and minerals. It is good for the immune system, good for brain health. It is a well-known ayurvedic medicine.

Major componentsPolysaccharides (acidic polysaccharides known as ginsenan), phenolic compounds (including elemicin and dauricine) [1]. Amino acids including arginine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, glycine, leucine, alanine, proline, lysine, serine, threonine, proline, phenylalanine, isoleucine, and tyrosine are highly accumulated; volatile oil in ginseng comprises aldehydes, heterocycles, sesquiterpenoids (hexadecanoic acid (32.28 %) and falcarinol (29.64 %)), fatty acids, fatty acid ester compounds, and alkane hydrocarbons; Polyacetylene; Ginseng contains more than 12 alkaloids, including adenosine, spermine, and choline. Ginseng also contains various trace elements, vitamins, and enzymes [2].
Other constituentsFlavonoid (Kaempferol), and alkaloids (fumarine and girinimbi), three β-carboline alkaloids were isolated from Ginseng root, fatty acids, and mineral oils [1].
