Coptis is a small, deciduous plant with yellow flowers and dark brown, woody roots.Coptis is mainly grown and harvested in China and Japan. However, due to an increase in demand, it is also cultivated in North America and Europe. The cultivation of Coptis requires a cool, damp, and shaded environment. The preferred soil for cultivation is a well-drained loamy soil with a pH of 5-6. Harvesting of the roots usually occurs in the fall when the plant has fully matured.
