Also known as the Grapple plant, the wood spider belongs to the family Pedaliaceae. It is native to the southwest United States, Southern Africa, and Northern Mexico that mainly grows in a desert climate, and sandy, dry habitat. The major active components in this root are iridoid glycosides, acetylated phenolic glycosides, and terpenoids. It is a good source of antioxidants that provides protection against harmful free radicals. Intake of this herb is good for skin, joints, heart, and stomach health.
