Irish moss is also called as carrageen moss belongs to family Gigartinaceae. It is a red alga abundantly grow in Atlantic Coast of Europe and North America. It is having mucilaginous body made of polysaccharide carrageenan, rich in iodine and sulfur, mainly constists of protein and minerals.

Irish moss, or carrageen moss, is a red algae native to the Atlantic coasts of Europe and North America. Primarily harvested in Ireland, it is also found in Scotland, Canada, and the United States. Traditionally gathered by hand during low tide, modern harvesting now often uses tractors with rakes for efficiency.
Post-harvest, the moss is washed to remove impurities and then dried—either sun-dried or air-dried—to maintain its color and nutrients. Finally, it is milled into powder or flakes for packaging and distribution.
